CONSTRUCTION MASON
Perform a variety of hardscape tasks involved with the construction of decorative walls, retaining walls, field stone walls, paver and natural stone patios, staircases, counters, fire pits, other miscellaneous landscape construction, and planting installations.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
- Follows directions from Area Superintendent and/or Foreman.
- Works closely with Foreman on installation of hardscape construction projects.
- Utilizes knowledge of elevation to execute the construction plan.
- Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including bobcats, backhoes, plate compactors, stone grinders, drills, gas and electric chop saws, demolition hammers, and jack hammers.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
- Executes installation of natural stone paving dry and semi-dry nature stone walls, concrete and masonry mixes, brick and block work, tile work, landscape construction, and flat work including bluestone, granite and concrete pavers and veneer stone.
- Lays out dimensions using blueprints.
SECONDARY ELEMENTS
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required as detailed in the CBA.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years masonry experience required.
- Prior experience of commercial hardscape and masonry construction.
- Must have experience with installation of patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps, use of natural stone and pavers, segmental blocks, cubic granite and precast, etc.
- Experience with natural walls and concrete pavers.
- Proficient in vertical and flat masonry.
- Understanding of site grades and effect on landscape.
- Knowledge of the properties of all masonry materials including different types of stone.
- Understanding, skill and knowledge on how to install footings and compacted base for patios, walks, driveways, etc.
- Ability to produce high quality work in a fast-paced, high-performing environment.
- Self-motivated and reliable.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Bilingual (Spanish/Portuguese) a plus.
- DOT and OSHA Certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally assist with lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required.
